By Aminata Phidelia Allie

The chairperson of the National Achievement Awards Committee of the All Works of Life (AWOL) organization in Sierra Leone, Valnora Edwin over the weekend launched this year’s awards categories and criteria. The official launch also marks the organisation’s tenth year of existence.

Edwin said the role of AWOL was beyond political thinking noting that it was about motivation, recognition and appreciation of fellow Sierra Leoneans who had done extremely well in their different endeavours.

She said that her committee’s role was to “vet” the different categories to ensure they were worthy of recognition and that in all twenty-eight categories beneficiaries must be able to meet 90 percent of the stated criteria as they “are hoping to lift and maintain standard.”

Chairman of AWOL, Anthony Navo Jnr called on the media to continue supporting them to achieve their goal, which he said was to develop Sierra Leone. “In as much as we have different people from different political parties in the country, our priority is Sierra Leone as our motto has rightly said: Put Salone fors. We work with the government of the day; it doesn’t matter who”, Navo said.

He said they had been making enormous contributions in the area of education in the form of awarding scholarships across the country adding that they had also made series of donations to the Connaught Hospital and had renovated the Lakka Hospital.

Navo said the awards night would take place on the 30 December at the Family Kingdom, adding that nomination forms were now available. He said voters could start voting either through their website: www.awolsl.org or to the phone number: 025-55-66-55.
