The presidential candidate of the People's Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) has expressed surprise over him not securing a single vote at the polling station where he cast his ballot on Saturday.
Charles Francis Margia and his family who voted at the Culture Polling Station in Aberdeen told Politico that a provisional result from that polling station announced by the Independent Radio Network (IRN) states that he got zero vote there.
“Even if my family did not vote for me, I’m shocked to hear that I got zero vote at a station I voted for myself,” Margai said, adding that the party was gathering their facts and would summon a press conference on Wednesday.
Additionally, a founding member of the PMDC and senior member of the party’s Advisory Council, Dr. Dennis Sandy alleged that his party scored zero vote at a polling station in the Government Model Secondary where he also cast his vote.
The National Electoral Commission which has the power to announce official results has so far not announced any figures. However, provisional results aired by the IRN and its partners show that the PMDC’s performance at the polls was poor compared to its records at the 2007 presidential and parliamentary elections.
The current provisional results aired by IRN also show that the race is between the country’s two oldest political parties – the ruling APC and the opposition SLPP.
