A former labourer at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown yesterday appeared at the Magistrate Court no.2 on a murder charge. Abass Kamara 38 was alleged to have murdered Ibrahim Kargbo in Freetown on the 18th September 2020.
A witness and brother to the deceased Idrissa Kargbo said he knew the accused as a friend and told the court that on the day of the incident, he was at home with other friends when he was informed by one Pupa that his elder brother had been killed. Having received the information he left his friends and went to the scene but was not allowed to enter the room where his brother was kept.
He added that he was later informed by someone that a lady had reported the matter to the police. Upon the arrival of the police, he was able to get access to the room. When he entered the room, he told the court that he saw swelling on his brother’s face and wounds on his feet. There was also a bucket mixed with water and blood and also saw a stick with nails attached.
The witness told the court that the police later took photos of the scene and when he came out, he was told that his brother died of cold. He said he didn’t believe such a statement and later went home. After some days, he was called to witness the post-mortem examination on his brother’s corpse and later went and made a statement at the Central Police Station.
Police sergeant Kpulum Musu 11406 said the accused at Regent Street in Freetown, murdered Ibrahim Kargbo.The Accused was not represented by a lawyer.
Magistrate Mark Ngegba ordered that Kamara be remanded at the Male Correctional Centre before adjourning the matter. Hearing will resume on the 8th December, 2020.
