World Bank denies endorsing Sierra Leone president

  • Jim Yong Kim
In a press release issued on 19 October the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development otherwise known as the World Bank has denied a statement attributed to President Ernest Bai Koroma that he had been endorsed by the Bretton Wood institution.

Contrary to news reports, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim has not endorsed any candidate in Sierra Leone's upcoming elections” the release says, adding that the Bank “works exclusively on reducing poverty and supporting development programs in its client countries and takes no part in political activity”.

The Sierra Leone president reportedly told a meeting organised by the Open Government Initiative that even the World Bank had approved of the performance of his administration and that its president Jim Yong Kim had endorsed his bid for reelection.

Politicotried to contact the government spokesman, Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo, but to no avail.
