SLPP downplays another defection

By Albert George Sheriff

Administrative
Secretary of the opposition Sierra Leone People's Party, Alhaji Brima
Koroma has said that his party is not officially aware of the
resignation from his party and defection to the All People's Congress
of Magnus Jolly-Boy Lavallie who until a few weeks ago was a Member
of Parliament of the party.

Koroma, however,
said that if such were to happen it was everybody’s political right
to switch parties.

The former Member
of Parliament of Constituency 82 Moyamba district is the latest
member of the party to have defected to the APC after another MP,
Robin Fallay did a few weeks ago.

Both men
complained of neglect by their party hierarchy, a reason they said
would cost their former party at the polls next month. They have also
promised to increase the support base of APC in the eastern
opposition stronghold.

Former spokesman
for the Revolution United Front rebels, Omrie Golley, who also joined
the APC, said his reason for doing so was to identify with the
“developmental strides” of President Ernest Bai Koroma.

Golley said for a
while now he had been helping the government by bringing investors
into the country.

I want to help
carry the process forward,” he promised, adding that his political
pedigree was peace and development.

According to APC’s
Secretary General, Victor Bockarie Foh, many people are defecting
from varied political parties to the ruling APC. He said it was no
surprise to see such things happening because the party’s leader
was “a visionary” with “forthright” and is
“development-oriented”.
