The Political Parties’ Registration Commission has urged all political parties to comply with its code of practice by submitting their audited financial reports on the 2012 elections. At a press conference in Freetown the chairperson Justice Maitland Tolla Thompson disclosed that they had long informed all political parties to submit their audited financial reports after the 2012 general elections, to enable them carry out their work. He also said that his commission was doing all it could to ensure political parties function properly by encouraging them to provide quarterly reports of their activities to the commission. “The commission must be adequately informed if political parties wanted to take up any activity in the country so as to ensure effective monitoring,” he advised, adding that they had concluded a regional political education campaign to engage the public on issues of political tolerance and how they could assess political parties based on performance. He revealed that during the tour they noticed that most parliamentarians had not visited their constituents to update them on issues of community and national interest since they were elected. PPRC registrar, Abraham John, noted that they had intervened to settle political party disputes and had succeeded in handling the NDA, UDM and SLPP disputes among others.
