Appearing for the second time in court, 25-year old Abdulai Fornah has been remanded until the next adjourned date for allegedly robbing one Abass Bangura with violence.

He was being tried on a two-count charge of committing felony and robbery with violence.

Statement of offence was that the accused, on 23 March this year, used violence to rob the complainant of his money along East Brook Lane in central Freetown.

Elder sister of the complainant, Adiatu Bangura, who testified as the first prosecution witness explained that after she and her brother had collected Le7,740,000 at Sackville Street they joined others to shop for their mother’s funeral.

She said that the money, plus Le760, 000, was with their brother wrapped inside his shirt as she walked behind them.

“All of a sudden we heard our brother crying for help and asking that the money be given give back to him,” she narrated and added that they were informed by some traders around at the scene that the accused took the money and gave it to another guy who had ran away.

PW1 testified that a second man came from within the crowd and started hitting her brother, who was holding on to the accused. She said by the time they managed to free the complainant from the fight, he had sustained a deep wound on his left cheek.

“We were warned by the traders not to let go off the accused because our money would be lost the moment he disappeared,” she explained.

The accused was later taken to the Eastern Police Station where they all made statements. The matter comes up again on Thursday 18 March, 2013.
