Balogun defends procurement of buses

Transport and Aviation Minister Leonard Balogun Koroma has defended the controversial purchase of the 100 which have been the subject of an investigation for possible procurement violations.

Balogun told lawmakers in the well of parliament that all procurement procedures had been followed in the process of acquiring the vehicles.

Parliament finally approves Kenema Council budget

Parliament on Tuesday finally approved the contentious Kenema City Council 2015 budget after a protracted back and forth.

The parliamentary oversight committee on Finance had repeatedly refused to give the document its blessing, citing anomalies in spending in the previous year.

The budget which was submitted to the committee early this year saw the appearance of core staff of the Council, include the mayor of Kenema, on four different occasions to defend it in futility.

Caritas on psychosocial training for religious leaders

Caritas International - Sierra Leone Tuesday commenced a three-day training workshop for pastoral and psychosocial councilors in Freetown. The move is part of effort to help provide psychosocial healing and support for over ten thousand Sierra Leoneans affected by the Ebola outbreak.

Parliament on Tuesday endorsed the report of the Public Account Committee (PAC) on its findings on the controversial Ebola audit report.

The vote to endorse the report came after a protracted debate in the well of parliament and it followed months of investigations by the committee which invited dozens of people or representatives of institutions named in the report.

Rise network trains teachers as Librarians

2015 Hajj: No visas for Ebola hit countries

As a result of the ongoing Ebola outbreak in West Africa, Muslims in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia will for the second consecutive year not take part in the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.

The annual journey called Hajj is prescribed for all practicing Muslims as one of the five pillars of Islam.

According to international media reports last week, the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the custodians of the two Holy Mosques, has ruled out issuing visas to pilgrims from the countries affected by the epidemic.

President Koroma ends FBC land encroachment issue

For the first time in its more than one hundred year history the Fourah Bay College administration will soon receive documents from the government of Sierra Leone giving it freehold of the more than 400 acre land on which the college stands on Mount Aureol.

The decision was finalised at a meeting between college authorities led by Deputy Vice Chancellor Sahr Gbamanja and Ministry of Lands officials including Lands Minister Musa Tarawallie.
