Margai remains defiant in standoff with Chief Justice

The lead council for the plaintiff in the recent matter of the Vice President sacking has questioned the educational background of the Acting Chief Justice Valesius Victor Thomas.

In his Freetown office Charles Francis Margai was not fearful, he was confident and bold, but he refused to be put it on record as he cast his big doubt over the education of the most senior justice of the Supreme Court.

Sierra Leone parliament opposes multiple-tier elections

Sierra Leone`s lawmakers have kicked against the idea of conducting four elections at one go as was the case in the last general elections in 2012.

MPs on Wednesday opposed the proposal put forward to parliament by the National Electoral Commission as part of a presentation of its 2015-2019 electoral cycle.

Parents of girl, 9, "raped" by Ebola survivor fear

The parents of a nine-year old girl allegedly raped by a survivor of the deadly Ebola virus disease are in fear that she may have contracted the virus.

The alleged incident occurred in Tankoro Chiefdom in the eastern Kono district of Sierra Leone.

The accused, a 19-year old chap we will only name by his first name (Komba), who reportedly survived the disease early this year, allegedly raped Fatmata (not her real name) by luring her into his bedroom with biscuit.

Sierra Leone MPs blast "unwise" NASSIT investments

Sierra Leone`s pension fund, the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) on Tuesday came under heavy criticism for its investments which lawmakers say are hardly targeted at the masses.

NASSIT was criticized for engaging in projects that appear to benefit the few rich folks in society, like its expensive housing schemes and the controversial mall projects ongoing on the provincial headquarters towns.

Sierra Leone army gets Rapidly Deployable Ebola treatment centre

The Sierra Leone army last week inaugurated a ‘Rapidly Deployable Treatment Center’ (RDTC) donated by the British government.

The facility will allow the medical unit of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) to respond rapidly in case of an outbreak of any infectious disease and provide treatment.

The British army, which is completing its mission to the country as part of the fight against the Ebola epidemic which erupted in 2014, facilitated the donation to the government of Sierra Leone.

New UK ambassador to Sierra Leone

The United Kingdom has announced a new High Commissioner to Sierra Leone. He is Guy Warrington who was named on Monday to replace Peter West.

A brief statement from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London published 19 October 2015, said West will be transferred to another diplomatic service appointment. Mr Warrington, it adds, takes up his appointment in Freetown in March 2016.

High Commissioner West took up his appoint in Sierra Leone in 2013 following his appointment the previous year.
