Less than 10% of Sierra Leone journalists subscribe to social security

The Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Mohamed Rahman Swaray has said less than ten percent of journalists pay their National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT).

Minister Swaray was speaking in a weekly press conference of the Ministry of Information and Civic Education held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Freetown on 17th October this year.

Man docked for “tampering” with EDSA meter

A man has appeared in court charged with tampering with electricity meters, property of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA).

Sheku Steven appeared before Magistrate Mark Ngegba at the Pademba Road court on Wednesday 18th October 2023 with prosecutors alleging that on the 28th of September this year, at 46 Off Looking Town Kissy in Eastern Freetown, he willfully tampered with the EDSA energy meter.

Businessman in court for “larceny, trespass”

A businessman identified as Karmish has appeared before Magistrate Mark Ngegba in Freetown for “larceny and trespass”.

The court heard that both the alleged larceny and trespass happened on 26th August 2023, at 13 City Road, Wellington in Eastern Freetown, and that the alleged stolen properties are worth NLe 200,000 (Two Hundred Thousand New Leones), property of another businessman, Alfred Richards.

18 certified Sierra Leone female migrants off to Saudi

Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security (MELSS) with the Human Resources Global Consultancy Sierra Leone Limited (HRG) sent 18 female migrants to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia yesterday, with a decent job promise.

The Minister of Labour , Employment and Social Security Mohamed Rahman Swaray, in bidding his farewell message to the migrants, said that they are on a legal, safe and dignified trip, as well as assuring them of a “decent work” in their endeavours.

MPs want protection for Sierra Leone migrant workers in Qatar

Members of Parliament have expressed concern over reports of appalling conditions faced by Sierra Leonean migrants in Qatar and have called on the nominee appointed as Ambassador to  Qatar Ahmed Tejan  Fadlu-Deen to ensure the maltreatment is stopped and they get full protection.
