Sierra Leone's former High Court Master and Registrar Indicted again

The anti-corruption commission has filed a second indictment against Stephen Yayah Mansaray, former Master and Registrar of the High Court of Sierra Leone.

 In a statement on Wednesday, the Anti-Graft Agency Said Mr. Mansaray was charged alongside four others. They are accused of misappropriating public funds which sum up to Le 460,268,200, being funds from the Judiciary’s Master and Registrar Account domicile at the Bank of Sierra Leone. They were also charged with conspiracy to commit a corruption offence.

Court slams injunction on Sierra Leone football regional playoff

A High Court in Freetown has slammed an injunction on the Sierra Leone Premier League playoffs currently taking place in the Northern region. The ban means that the final rounds of the playoff that is supposed to start on Wednesday 25th September will not be played till the court rules otherwise.

The injunction came following a case brought the playoff by some members of the Sierra Leone Football Association.

Sierra Leone Red Cross in turmoil

There is a thick cloud of discontent at the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society (SLRCS) following the removal from office of the Western Area Branch Manager, Unissa Carew. 

An investigation by Politico reveals that the situation has degenerated into a bitter row within the humanitarian organization, with many volunteers threatening to leave.

It follows the handling by Carew of the 8 September football match between Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone plans mass anti-rabies vaccination campaign

The Sierra Leone government has unveiled plans to vaccinate at least 10, 000 dogs in one week as part of a drive to tackle rising incidents of rabies infections in the country.

The mass vaccination campaign, which was scheduled to commence on Monday, is being carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Livestock Animal Welfare and Rabies Control Taskforce (NLAWRCT).

The Speaker of Parliament, Dr Abass Bundu has ordered an investigation into a possible verbal abuse of a female parliamentarian in the well of Parliament.

Rebecca Yei Kamara, Member of the opposition Coalition for Change (C4C) party representing Constituency 029 in Kono District, was shouted at by an unidentified fellow lawmaker while making contributions in the well last week.

Sierra Leone anti-graft body indicts 3 for "exams malpractice"

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed an indictment for three people who were recently caught for examination malpractice. Mannah Lahai, Mohamed Kamara and Edward Lamboi have all been charged with multiple counts, ranging from Conspiracy to Commit a corruption offence to Obstruction of Justice.

Sierra Leone ferry captain under probe after scary sea incident

The Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) says it has suspended the license of a Captain of the MV Freetown ferry, pending investigation into the circumstances surrounding an incident that caused the Ferry to get stuck in water recently.

While passengers blamed the incident on overloading, the authorities blame it on low tide and sand banking.
