3 lecturers sacked for “exams malpractice”

The University of Sierra Leone (USL) has sacked three lecturers over their involvement in an alleged examination malpractice.

In a statement, the university administration said the decision was reached at the conclusion of an investigation into allegations that the unnamed lecturers “fraudulently” changed grades of students after examination.

Sierra Leone First Lady calls for more action to protect children in Pujehun

The First Lady of Sierra Leone has appealed to parents, local authorities and politicians in Pujehun District to do more to protect children in the district against sexual penetration and other gender-based crimes.

Fatima Bio made the call during her Hands off Our Girls campaign tour to the district on Saturday.

“What we need in Pujehun is development but the first development is taking care of our children. In the last 10 years, Pujehun has fallen behind in every development indicator,” Mrs Bio said.

IRC rolls out project to help SGBV victims in Sierra Leone

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) say they are currently rolling out a project designed to empower survivors of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV).

The project – Protection of Girls and Women Against Sexual Penetration and Gender Based Violence (POWER) – has already given grants to 493 women in Kenema District.

Sierra Leonean school proprietor faces child cruelty charges

The owner of a Day Care & Preparatory School in Freetown could face charges of child cruelty after she was accused of assaulting a 2-year old boy.

Mrs Berther Thompson, who owns Bernis Day Care & Preparatory School located at 48 Main Penisular Road, Goderich, allegedly assaulted the infant as punishment for biting another child in his class. The incident reportedly occurred on 14 October.

Hundred of pigs die in Sierra Leone raising health concerns

Hundreds of pigs are reported to have died in what seems like an epidemic in Sierra Leone.

The mysterious deaths of the animals have raised public health concerns amidst reports that their meat is being sold to unsuspecting buyers in markets across Freetown.
