Sierra Leone maintains spot in visa openness ranking

Sierra Leone has been ranked 33rd in the second year in a row in the African Development Bank’s regional ranking of ease in traveling – the Visa Openness for Africa Index.
The report, which is done by the AfDB in conjunction with the African Union Commission, assesses 54 countries on the continent for their efforts in making traveling to them by fellow Africans easy. It measures how open African countries are when it comes to visa issuance. It looks at what they ask of citizens from other countries in Africa when they travel.
Sierra Leone, Cote d’Ivoire vow to strengthen ties, as Air Cote D’Ivoire re-launches

Officials from the governments of Sierra Leone and Cote d’Ivoire have vowed to work on deepening ties between the two countries in the area of aviation and other sectors. They made the commitment during the official re-launch of Air Cote d’Ivoire’s operation in Sierra Leone.
At a cocktail ceremony at the Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel on Friday, officials from both governments highlighted the numerous areas of cooperation they can work on.
Sierra Leone Court Master and Registrar acquitted

A Freetown High Court presided over by Justice Bintu Alhadi on Tuesday convicted three of four accused persons who were standing trial for corruption related charges at the judiciary of Sierra Leone.
Among the accused was Stephen Yayah Mansaray, former Master and Registrar of the High Court of Sierra Leone, who was acquitted and discharged.
DSTI project wins Gates Foundation grant

A project by the Sierra Leone government designed to utilize technology, software and devices to collect, label and model data to inform real-time government and development partner decision making has won a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The $773, 476 grant will be used by the Directorate of Science, Technology, and Innovation (DSTI) to develop the Integrated GIS Portal which it recently piloted.
NATCOM Board, management hold retreat in eastern Sierra Leone
Authorities of the National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM) on Friday concluded a three-day retreat for the Board of Commissioners and management.
The retreat, which took place in Kenema was to improve the regulatory sector as they prepare to continue to make the Commission a key player in the socioeconomic development of Sierra Leone.
NATCOM's Director General, Maxwell Hinga Massaquoi, said since he was appointed, the Commission had never been taken to court because he initiated and implemented the alternative dispute resolution (ADR).
QCell unveiled as major sponsor of 2019 NEA in Sierra Leone

The mobile operator QCell has been named as major sponsor of this year’s National Entertainment Awards (NEA).
The NEA, which is organized by Lake Production, an event management company, celebrates talented Sierra Leoneans with artistic skills in music, film, comedy, fashion, sports, cultural heritage, and tourism. The organizers say the event is intended to rebrand Sierra Leone to the outside world through entertainment.
The first edition of the NEA was held in 2017.
