Aggrieved fathers lament over delayed justice in Sierra Leone

The father of an alleged murder victim and the father of a two-year-old toddler who was assaulted have complained about the delay in prosecuting their cases on behalf of their children.

Police started processing documents for both cases since the first and second weeks of October, but delays between the Police and the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) meant that both matters have taken too long to be charged to court.

New testimony at the Commission of Inquiry (COI) has shown that there is no evidence of earning by the business or work of Umu Hawa Mansaray, daughter of former government minister, Minkailu Mansaray.

Ms Mansaray’s alleged house at Bango Farm, Adonkia is the subject of the COI’s investigation, amidst suspicion that the property might have been bought by his father, under her name.

Sierra Leone Labour ministry officials make unannounced visits to private businesses

Officials of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, led by the Commissioner of Labour, John Kallon, last week conducted unannounced inspections on the premises of three private businesses to ascertain compliance of Sierra Leone’s Labour Laws.

The businesses visited are all packaged water producing companies - Bokum, Family and So Pure Water, operating in Freetown.

Children display paintings in Sierra Leone to mark CRC at 30

Children from across the country on Tuesday exhibited paintings at the Cotton Tree, as part of commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

The drawings depicted the daily issues children face in the country.

The CRC is an international treaty which was signed on 20th November 1989. It was adopted by the United Nations to institute global standards to ensure the protection, survival and development of all children in the world without discrimination.

Save the Children celebrates centenary

The international child rights group, Save the Children, has celebrated its 100 year anniversary by showcasing its achievements in Sierra Leone and the region. The celebration was held at the Radisson Blu Mamy Yoko Hotel on Thursday.
