Social Security court starts hearing in Sierra Leone

The newly established Industrial and Social Security Court has started hearing in Sierra Leone on Saturday. The court was established by the judiciary last year to specifically investigate social security cases and hasten their trials.

On Saturday up to 15 cases were up for hearing in the court.

Chelsea's Antonio Rüdiger donates Le 1 Billion towards education in Sierra Leone

Chelsea center back, Antonio Rudiger, has donated £101,000 (Le1 billion) to the Sierra Leone government as his support to the country’s Free Quality Education program.

Rudiger who was born in Germany to Sierra Leonean parents said he was proud to support the country in its drive to provide education for children.

Rudiger made the presentation to President Julius Maada Bio in the United Kingdom on the margins of the ongoing UK-Africa summit.

Bo goes three months without water

Residents in Bo have told Politico that they have gone three months without water supply from the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO). The situation has affected residents and businesses within the city.

Bo is the second capital of Sierra Leone, and the shortage of water supply by has left thousands of people in the city reliant on boreholes. But as the dry season intensifies, most of the boreholes are expected to get dried up.

The Scaling up Nutrition (SUN) movement has launched a new strategic plan to fight malnutrition among children in Kenema District. The document target the cause of malnutrition and focuses on coordination among stakeholders to help with the nutrition of the children.

The plan was launched at the Kenema District Council hall last week.

Sierra Leone records first case of Lassa Fever in 2020

The Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS) has confirmed the first case of Lassa Fever this year.

A spokesman told Politico that the victim, a seven-year old boy, died in Kono District where the family had gone to seek treatment when he fell ill in nearby Kenema.

Chiefdom authorities shut down radio station in eastern Sierra Leone

The regional broadcasting network, Eastern Community Radio, has finally shut down its operation in Tongo, after a protracted disagreement with local authorities over ownership.

The management of the broadcaster said it had to pull out on the orders of the chiefdom authorities.

The development comes after about three months since the station temporarily halted transmission on the orders of the local authorities, amidst negotiation over the fate of the station in the chiefdom.
