ONS holds training on new strategy

The Office of National Security (ONS) has held a one-day training on its new security strategy.

Beneficiaries of the training held in Kenema on Tuesday were drawn from the military, the correctional service, police and other security apparatus.         

Accused denied bail for Le97 million fraud

Samuel Saio Kamara, who police accused of conspiring to obtain the sum of Le97 million by false pretense, was denied bail on Tuesday.

The accused was making his second appearance before Magistrate Hannah Boni of Magistrate Court No 1 at Pademba Road.

Kenema: Ebola byelaws reactivated to tackle Corona

The District Emergency Operation Center in Kenema has reactivated byelaws it instituted during the fight against Ebola, in preparedness for the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic.

The decision was taken on Tuesday at a stakeholders meeting bringing together District Council and health authorities, as well as security officials.

District Medical Officer, Dr Donald Grant, said during the meeting that the measures were important to protect the district and the country at large from the virus.

Sierra Leone president orders military deployment over coronavirus

Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio, on Wednesday ordered for the deployment of the military at all its border entry points as the latest measure in efforts to prevent the novel coronavirus from entering the country.

The decision was made public in a nationwide televised address announcing new measures as part of the country’s preparedness against the viral pandemic.

Sierra Leone better prepared for Corona than Ebola – report

A new report launched by the governance think tank, Institute for Governance Report (IGR), has shown that Sierra Leone is better placed to deal with the ongoing global outbreak of the Coronavirus compared to the Ebola outbreak five years ago.

The report titled: “Maintaining Our Zero” is a snappy study that was done by IGR in 48 hours to gauge knowledge, understand attitudes and the general sense of readiness among 500 respondents across three districts in the Sierra Leone.

President Bio imposes new anti-coronavirus measures

As the only country in the Mano River Union yet to record any case of the Coronavirus disease, Sierra Leone has taken major steps to keep the virus at bay.

On Monday President Julius Maada Bio imposed restrictions on overseas travel for government officials and banned public gatherings of more than 100 people. The move is part of a raft of new measures to prevent the outbreak of the Coronavirus.
