AVDP signs Le 7bn deal for project monitoring

The Agricultural Value chain Development Project (AVDP) has signed a deal with agricultural officers across the country to monitor the implementation of their project.  The Memorandum of Agreement, which was signed between the AVDP and officers in Bo, is worth Le 7 billion.

Dockyard youths take charge of Corona sensitization

Youths in Kissy Dockyard have rallied themselves and vowed to take up the challenge of sensitizing their communities on COVID-19. On Saturday, the advocacy group Dockyard Youths Concerned (DYC) trained up to 50 young people on messages on the pandemic.

Some 38 youths from different backgrounds were trained at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Secondary School, Kissy Dockyard. Following the training, the trainees broke up into several small groups on Sunday to conduct door to door sensitization.

Sierra Leone launches long awaited TVET policy

The Sierra Leone government has launched the long awaited national Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Policy.

Minister of Technical and Higher Education presided over the launching on Thursday, June 11, at the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC). At the same occasion, the government also launched the Sierra Leone Skills Development Project.

One functional refrigerator and no formalin at sole mortuary in northern Sierra Leone

Health authorities in Makeni are appealing to the central government to help provide support for the effective functioning of the only mortuary that is serving the entire northern region.

The mortuary which is situated in the Regional Government Hospital in Makeni City, serves all seven districts in the North and Northwest regions, and it currently has only one functioning refrigerator, which officials say is grossly inadequate to meet the demands of the population.

Sierra Leone to reopen schools for public exams

The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has announced plans to reopen schools for public examinations to be conducted. The ministry made the announcement on Thursday, following an engagement with education officials and health authorities.

In a statement, the ministry said that schools will be reopened for pupils who are supposed to write the three public examinations: BECE, NPSE and WASSCE, all of which are conducted by the regional examination body, the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC).
