Bo: Bailiff evicts tenants after court order

An industrious disable organization in Bo City is among several victims of a court order that led to the eviction of tenants of a building last week.

A bailiff on Thursday, August 13, executed the order, under the watch of armed police officers headed by James Musa, LUC Bo West, leaving many of the tenants in confusion.

Stats SL, FAO sign MoU for Household Food Security Assessment

The Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Statistics Sierra Leone for the conduct of a Household Food Security and Agricultural Livelihood Assessment in Sierra Leone.

The signing ceremony was hosted at the FAO Sierra Leone Country Office in Freetown on Tuesday, 11th August, in the presence of representatives from both organizations and the media.

Bo residents express concern over rise in road accidents

Some residents in Bo have expressed concern over recent increase in the spate of accidents in the township. They say accidents, which are mostly caused by motor bikes, have claimed the lives of many people.

Campaigners say in most cases, especially when they involved bikes, the riders run away, and the police have had problem trying to identify hit-and-run riders due to many factors that include failure of registration of bikes.

WFP provides logistics assistance to Sierra Leone public departments

Two government Ministries and a unit in the Office of the Vice President have become the latest recipients of vehicles and other items donated by the World Food Programme (WFP). 

Two vehicles, a DAF 1800 truck and a single cabin Toyota Land Cruiser, were donated to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The Ministry also received two 20ft sea-cargo containers, two combo aqua tanks and rolls of perimeter barbed wire.

Sierra Leone starts COVID-19 antibody tests commences this week

Sierra Leone is among seven African countries that will participate in the first phase of a study on a treatment option for Covid-19 on the continent, Politico learnt last week.

Sierra Leone, Liberia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Nigeria, and Morocco will administer the coronavirus antibody tests as part of the study that seeks to understand the extent of the outbreak on the continent.

Sierra Leone to establish standardized pharmacies at chiefdom level

The Sierra Leone government is to establish standard pharmacies across the country as part of its drive to discourage consumption of fake drive, the Ministry of Health said.

Health Minister Prof. Alpha Tejan Wurie was quoted last week saying that pharmacies will be established in all 190 chiefdoms across the country, so that Sierra Leoneans can have access to affordable drugs.

The government, according to Prof. Wurie, hopes that this will mitigate fake drug peddling, which poses a major health threat to the population.

Sierra Leone launches Covid-19 Response Hub Portal

Sierra Leone has begun using a centralized public dashboard which provides near-real-time updates on the country’s response to the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic.

The portal, which was launched in the first week of August. will provide information that include containment efforts and spatial information on critical resources, officials said.
