Judge alone to try Sierra Leonean opposition politician for alleged rape

Justice Samuel O.Taylor has reversed a decision he took on Tuesday to have the leader of National Democratic Alliance Party Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray and one Marion Harouni tried by a judge and jury at the sexual offences court in Freetown.

Speaking on Wednesday 19th August 2020 Justice Taylor said his earlier decision was inconsistent with the new law on sexual offenses and goes against the mandate of the new model court for sexual offenses.

Justice Momoh Jah Stevens of the sexual offenses division of the High Court in Freetown has sentenced a 36 year-old driver, Manso Kamara to 15 years in jail after he was found guilty of sexually penetrating a child under the age of 18.

23-year-old Sierra Leonean gets 12 years for raping a child

Justice Ansumana Ivan Sesay of the High court in Freetown has sentenced 23 year-old Mohamed Deen to 12 years imprisonment after he was found guilty of sexually penetrating a girl child under the age of 18. 

Delivering his judgement on Wednesday 19th August 2020, Justice Sesay said that he had found the accused guilty as charged because of corroboration in the testimony of the victim with that of the 1st prosecution witness Dr. Olabisi Claudius Cole, head of the Rainbo Center.

Former Freetown Mayor's murder trial adjourned for lack of jurors

The trial of the former mayor of Freetown Herbert George-Williams and the Public Relations Officer of the opposition APC in the Western Area Abu Bakarr Daramy has been adjourned because of lack of jurors.

The accused persons who face a two-count indictment of murder and conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm, made their second appearance before Justice Augustine Musa at the High Court in Freetown on Wednesday 19th August 2020.

Budget reallocation hindering social services delivery in Sierra Leone - Report

The practice of reallocating funds within approved budgets is depriving key social services sectors in Sierra Leone, a new report has revealed.

The report by the Public Financial Management Consortium not only reiterates a well-known fact about delays in disbursement of funds to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), but it also notes that some MDAs receive just a fraction of what is in the approved budget, thereby hindering their ability to deliver on the promises contained in their plans for the citizenry.

Prof Ritchard M’Bayo given befitting honour at FBC

A special celebratory service for the passing on of Fourah Bay College senior academic, Professor Richard T. Mbayo, has been held at the college campus on Mount Aureol, Freetown. Senior academia, lecturers, students and other sympathisers assembled in the Lawrence Kamara Hall on the Multi- purpose hall for the service that was organized by the Mass Communication department.
