PHOTOGRAPGH OF EX-PRESIDENT TENDERED IN COURT

The photograph of former President of Sierra Leone Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has been tendered before Magistrate Hannah Bonnie in Freetown in the ongoing preliminary investigations into a ten-count charge against the former Minister of Social Welfare Gender and Children’s Affairs Dr. Sylvia Blyden.    

ONE REMANDED FOR SEXUAL PENETRATION

Justice Sulaiman Bah of the sexual offenses division of the High Court in Freetown has remanded one Santigie Turay into the custody of the Correctional Services following his first appearance on Monday for allegedly sexually penetrating a child.

The prosecution alleges that the accused person between the 1st January and 10th May 2020, in the Western Area of Freetown sexually penetrated a child under the age of 18.

WAEC concerned over exams malpractice

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has in a press release from its headquarters in Accra, Ghana highlighted a number of concerns in relation to the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination or WASSCE in the various countries in the region.

The Council was particularly concerned about what it says was the unfortunate circulation of a yet to be finalized version of an Examiners’ List for this year’s exams on social media.

Sierra Leone warns unregistered hotels calling them illegal

The Ministry of Tourism has warned that time is up for business people running hotels and guesthouses in Sierra Leone without registering them.

Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Dr Memunatu Pratt, warned that the ministry will soon shut down such hotels. She was speaking in Kenema as she presented the government’s bailout package for beneficiaries in the district. 

President Bio takes charge of Sierra Leone People's Party

President Julius Maada Bio has taken charge of the governing Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) as its Leader following the conclusion of a constitutional amendment process.

The new amendment will also see the Vice President of the country, Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, take over as the Deputy Leader of the party.

Health workers demand remote allowances

Health Workers in Bo District, southern Sierra Leone, have demanded the payment of their remote allowances which, according to them, has not been forthcoming for over a long period of time now. 

Polytech lecturers vow to stay on strike

Lecturers of Eastern Polytechnic in Kenema have vowed to continue with their ongoing strike action until government addresses their demand for a review of their pay structure. The lecturers have been on strike since the 27th of July this year.

President of the Senior Staff Association of the institution, Joe Diawo, told Politico that their salaries were supposed to be reviewed every three years, but that the last review was done in 2016.
