Covid-19: Sierra Leone teachers express fear over reopening of schools

With schools set to reopen next week, amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Sierra Leone’s teachers have expressed concern over the lack of preparedness with regards infection prevention control.

The Sierra Leone Teachers Union (SLTU), which represents the interest of the country’s teachers, say they are concerned about the safety of both the teachers and pupils.

Older people in Sierra Leone face a high prospect of death and disability due to their exposure to factors that contribute to cardiovascular disease, a study has found.

The study conducted by the researchers at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom revealed that three-quarters of people over the age of 40 in Sierra Leone have at least one health factor that could contribute to cardiovascular disease – creating a ‘ticking time bomb’ of death and disability.

Egypt delivers medical supplies to Sierra Leone

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the ambassador of Sierra Leone to Egypt, has secured the shipment of medical supplies worth $ 4 Million from the government of Egypt as part of the Arab nation’s support for the global fight against the COVID 19 pandemic.

Sierra Leone students in China defend ambassador

The Sierra Leone Student’s Union in China (SLSUC) has dismissed allegations making the rounds on social media that the Sierra Leonean Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina, has embezzled funds of the union and is also meddling in its politics. Ambassador Ndomahina is alleged to have imposed the union’s current leadership on the rest of the members.
