Bench warrant for EPA-SL boss, others

The Chief Justice of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Desmond Babatunde Edwards has ordered for the arrest of the head of the Environment Protection Agency Sierra Leone (EPA-SL), the Chief Administrator of the Freetown City Council (FCC) and the Managing Director of Radisson Blu Hotel for failing to comply with court orders.

The order was made yesterday during the start of the criminal session of the High Court in Freetown.

Recurrent blackout returns to east of Freetown as Karpowership 2 departs

A day after the departure of one of the two Turkish run power ships, a major power cut hit the eastern part of the Sierra Leonean capital, Freetown, raising concerns about the return of recurrent outage.

Prior to its departure, the Karpowership 2 was stationed at Cline Town, from where it supplied power to the eastern part of the city.

The government said it had to terminate the contract with the Karadeniz Energy Group, owner of the Karpowerships, because the problem that led to the hiring of the ship had been solved.

Police resumes enforcement of Okada movement restrictions

The Sierra Leone Police on Monday resumed enforcement of a longstanding ban of commercial motor bikes (Okada) on routes along the Central Business District (CBD) of Freetown.

The police in a statement last week warned Okada riders against plying on the route. The statement dated Wednesday 9th September said that they have also observed that registered private motor bikes were also being used for commercial purposes within the CBD in violations of their licenses.

State House blames Afrobarometer score on “old” perception

Press Secretary to President Julius Maada Bio, Yusuf Keketoma Sandi, has told Politico that the Afrobarometer report which states that officials from State Houses are the third most corrupt in the country came to such conclusion only because of old perception that is still held by many citizens on how State House have operated in the past.

Bridge collapses in Sierra Leone capital

The bridge at Savage Street collapsed on Thursday evening, just before rush hour. No casualty was reported, but a young bike rider who was almost caught in the rubble had to be rushed to the hospital by residents of the community.

The bridge connects the West End of the city right through to the main business district. Residents who live in the community say the bridge had been in a bad shape for quite a while.
