Accounting firm, BDO, contests COI report

The accounting firm, Binder Dikker Otte (BDO), has rejected part of the report of the Commissions of Inquiry (COI) implicating it in the failure to transfer some US$ 52,347 of Ebola funds to the government’s account.

BDO was reacting to the just released Government White paper, which endorsed the part of the COI report and ordered the accounting firm to pay back the money into the consolidated revenue fund.

Sierra Leone warns foreign journalists

The Ministry of Information and Communication has issued a Press Release advising Foreign Journalists to get accreditation from the Ministry before practicing in the country.

According to the statement which was released last Friday, some individuals claiming to be foreign journalists have been practicing in Sierra Leone and believed not to have any accreditation that would have authorized them to do their work.

Tourism minister urges traditional authorities to boost sector

The Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Memunatu Pratt, has urged traditional authorities to step up their efforts in the promotion of domestic tourism in their respective chiefdoms and region across the country.

Pratt was addressing stakeholders in the Eastern district of Kenema last week. She said the engagement was about finding ways to promote local tourism and ensure it contributes to the livelihood of rural people.

"Victim" of a gang-rape testifies in court

A 13-year old girl who was allegedly gang raped by three men has testified before Justice Manuela Jennifer Harding at the sexual offences division of the High Court in Freetown.

Led in evidence by State prosecutor Robin Mason Jr. on Friday 25th September, 2020, the witness described herself as a school pupil and recognized the accused person.

Calls for a ban on political rallies

Stakeholders at a Town Hall meeting in Kossoh Town, in the Western Rural Area, have called for a ban on political party rallies during elections. The meeting, which was organised by the regional office of the National Commission for Democracy (NCD), also attracted calls for easing of political tension in the country and the recall or petitioning of Members of Parliament (MPs) who abandon their constituents.

NATCOM plans consumer protection survey

The National Telecommunications Commission is planning to roll out a consumer protection survey next year. The survey is expected to inform the policy of the commission to better protect consumers from exploitation by telecommunication services providers in the country.

A letter from the Director General, Daniel Kiatibi to the staff of the commission states that instructions had already been given to the Director of Cooperate and Industry Affairs.
