AIG East vows to act tough against Gangsterism

Following the arrest of six alleged gang members from two factions at Largo Town in Kenema, the Assistant Inspector General of Police East, Thomas Mustapha Lahai, has warned parents to caution their children against involvement with cliques and gangsterism.

The move by the AIG was precipitated by a clash between the rival gang in Largo Village in the outskirt of Kenema, which according to him destabilized the peace and security of the community.

Sierra Leone's former State Chief of Protocol bounces back

Former State Chief Protocol, Fatmata Edna Kargbo, who was sacked after her church testimony in Nigeria sparked graft probe into her financial dealings, has bounced back with an appointment in the Foreign Service.

Ms Kargbo is among four presidential appointees announced on Thursday. She is going to Germany as deputy ambassador, replacing veteran journalist Jonathan Leigh, according to a statement released by the office of the president.

Judiciary requests for Le22 Billion for 2021 financial year

The judiciary of Sierra Leone has presented a proposed budget of Le22, 053,000,000 to the Ministry of Finance for the running of the justice sector in the 2021 financial year.   

Chief Justice Babatunde Edwards made this disclosure during the ongoing budget planning process at the Ministry of Finance in Freetown.

The Publicity Secretary of the All Peoples Congress (APC) party, Sidi Yaya Tunis has said their party could not in any way be involved in leaking to the public the telephone conversation between Former President Ernest Bai Koroma and the Inspector General of Police, Ambrose Sovula in relation to the confusion around the former president’s residence in Makeni, as officials from the Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC) attempted to interview him on issues connected to his tenure of office.

Guinea votes in high tension election

Guineans are expected to vote for president this weekend, Sunday October 18, in what promises to be a crucial election.

Incumbent president Alpha Conde is seeking a third term, after controversially changing the country’s constitution to allow him run at the end of his two-five year terms.

He faces 12 other candidates, with his major challenger being veteran opposition leader Cellou Dalein Diallo of the Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea (UFDG).

Ahead of elections in Guinea and Cote d’Ivoire MRU calls for peace

The sub regional grouping Mano River Union (MRU) has called for peace ahead of crucial elections this month in two of its member states.

The MRU comprises Sierra Leone, Guinea, Liberia and Cote d’Ivoire; Guinea is heading for elections this week – October 18, while Cote d’Ivoire is slated to conducts its poll on October 31.

Sierra Leone opposition feels unfairly treated with barrage of condemnations

The main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) has kicked against condemnations of its members over the October 8 incident in Makeni around the resident of its leader and chairman, Ernest Bai Koroma.

Supporters of Koroma were involved in a standoff with agents of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) who had gone to interview the former president over suspected involvement is corruption. The anti-graft agency said the conduct of Koroma’s supporters prevented its agents from questioning him.
