ABCD Export City Project comes close to reality

Plans to establish export cities in Sierra Leone took a giant leap recently when the brains behind the idea received prefabricated building materials.

The materials were handed over to Abdul Kadiru Kaikai, CEO of the ABCD Export City Project, in Instanbul, Turkey, on 27th October.

According to a statement issued by his communications handlers, the prefab materials will be used for the construction of facilities in its four project sites across the country.

Bo, Kenema in electrification overhaul

The cities of Bo and Kenema are said to be having a total overhauling of their electricity systems as an expansive project to improve power supply in the two regional cities gets underway.

The Communication Specialist in the Ministry of Energy, Austine Luseni, in a telephone interview with Politico on Saturday said the power poles and lines have aged and would have to be replaced in the Bo/Kenema Electrification Project that is funded by the World Bank and the African Development Bank.

Helen Keller ends Community Sensitization on Elephantiasis

As part of efforts to end transmission of the tropical disease elephantiasis in Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, in partnership with Helen Keller International (HKI), has ended a two-day community awareness raising in two chiefdoms in Kenema District.

 The awareness raising and sensitization exercise, according to officials, was designed to educate and build the confidence of community people ahead of a planned major testing exercise. The idea, they said, is to ensure that they do not misunderstand the exercise.

Student loan scheme policy validated in Sierra Leone

The Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Professor Aiah Gbakima, has joined other stakeholders in a-day long session to validate the draft Sierra Leone National Student Loan Scheme policy.

The document, according to officials, is the outcome of nationwide consultations, survey and sensitization ahead of the establishment of the student’s loan scheme. They said that it took the committee that was established to work on it four months to produce the draft policy.

Sierra Leone Parliament ready to enact code on breast milk substitute – Speaker

The Sierra Leone parliament is ready to adopt and legislate the code on breast milk substitute, which is currently under drafting, the Speaker of Parliament, Dr Abass Bundu, has assured.

Dr Bundu told officials seeking for the enactment of the law which seeks to regulate the marking of breast milk substitutes that as lawmakers they were committed to the country’s development, which he noted was tied to the health and wellbeing of its people.
