Sierra Leone launches Disaster Management Agency

President Julius Maada Bio has launched the Disaster Management Agency for Sierra Leone. At the event to herald his formal endorsement of the agency in Freetown, the President gave a rundown of disasters the country has experienced over the years, and the essence for the setting up of a separate body to adequately address such occurrences.

The Kenema District Coordinator of the Free Quality Education (FQE), Abdul Karim Vangahun, has expressed disappointment over the performance of government and Government Assisted Schools in the just released West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

Parliament approves 3 presidential nominees

Sierra Leone’s Parliament has unanimously approved three presidential nominees to different missions abroad.

Ynonne Alexander King is the Deputy High Commissioner to Great Britain and Northern Ireland, while Jonathan Saffa was approved as Deputy Ambassador to the Republic of Liberia and Atumane Denkeh as ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco.

The three nominees, one female and two males, were approved on the 16th November, 2020.

Complaint of “exorbitant” water rate in SIerra Leone

Customers of the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) have frowned over what they refer to as exorbitant water rate charged by the water provider.

According some aggrieved customers in Kenema, what pains them most is the fact that they are not getting value for money as the quality of service provided by the rural water service provider is poor.

Sierra Leone MP apologises for calling parliament corrupt

Embattled Member of Parliament representing Constituency 003 in Kailahun District, Hindolo Gevao, has apologized to a Committee of Parliament as contained in a recorded audio that has circulated on social media.

Gevao had earlier been suspended from the Chairmanship of the Legislative Committee of Parliament after he reportedly confirmed on a BBC radio interview claims by a local accountability group that the House was amongst the most corrupt institutions in Sierra Leone.

Why a school-leaving exams candidate in Sierra Leone “took his own life”

18-year-old Micford Walker-Johnson has been reported to have allegedly taken his own life for scoring a poor grade in Mathematics in the recently published result of the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

He was reported to have hanged himself on Sunday with his belt over a bathtub in the restroom at their Berwick Street residence in Freetown where he resided with his mother and stepfather.
