Landlord in court for ‘‘beating’’ tenant

Mabinty Bangura, wife of one Amadu Bangura who alleges to have been assaulted by his landlord Abubakarr Kamara, has testified before Magistrate Mark Ngegba in Freetown in the ongoing preliminary investigations into a three-count charge of assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intent to kill.

Led in evidence by Police prosecutor IG Edward Sesay on Monday 14th December 2020, the witness told the court that she and her husband were tenants to the accused at a house situated at Congo Cross.

Sierra Leone Parliament approves agriculture agreement with Abu Dhabi

Sierra Leone parliament has on Friday the 11th of December unanimously approved the foreign investment agreement between Republic of Sierra Leone and Elite Agro-Sierra Leone (EAG) based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirate (UAE).

The investing company, Elite Agro LLC, has operations across the globe.

Mama-Pikin Foundation gets $3.85 million grant

Sierra Leone’s campaign against maternal and infant mortality has received a major boost with a $3.85 million grant.

The grant from an anonymous donor was specifically awarded to the Mama-Pikin Foundation, which is expected to support the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS) and the University of Sierra Leone Teaching Hospitals Complex (USLTHC) to train obstetrician/gynecologist and pediatric specialists in the country.

UN Resident Coordinator commends judicial reforms

The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Sierra Leone, Dr. Babatunde Ahonsi, has commended the Chief Justice Desmond Babatunde Edwards on the ongoing reforms at the judiciary under his leadership.

The UN top diplomat in the country made the commendation during his first visit to the judiciary and the Chief Justice on Monday 14th December, at the Law Courts building on Siaka Stevens in Freetown.

A man has narrated to a Freetown court how his entrusting of a motor-bike to one Mohamed Dumbuya for business ended in a fight without any trace of the bike.

Sierra Leone confirms fresh cases of polio in three districts

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Health, Dr Alpha Wurie, has confirmed three new polio cases in Sierra Leone for the first time in 10 years. He said the cases were recorded in Kambia, Tonkolili and Western Area Rural District.

The minister however said that the cases were not from the wild polio virus strain, rather vaccines derived.

Asked how they were able to piece that, Dr Wurie said the samples were tested abroad and proved traceable to vaccines.
