Land rights campaigners in Sierra Leone call for dialogue

Green Scenery, a leading campaign group in Sierra Leone, has called on the Bio administration to resume dialogue it instituted earlier this year geared towards resolving land rights dispute in the southern Pujehun District.

The call by the group comes after a magistrate court in Freetown discharged 18 activists who were on trial in relation to a violent unrest that erupted in Malen Chiefdom where land rights campaigners have been at loggerheads with a multinational agribusiness company over alleged rights violations.

Kamarainba's defense to make ‘‘no case submission’’

Defence lawyers representing the Chairman and leader of the Alliance Democratic Party (ADP) Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray and co-accused Marion Arouni, who’re both standing trial on an eight-count indictment which include conspiracy, sexual penetration and meeting a child for sexual purposes have disclosed that they’ll be making a no case submission for and on behalf of their clients.

Fisher man walks free from robbery with violence charge

A Freetown High Court Judge Don Bosco Allieu has acquitted and discharged 25 year- old Ibrahim Sorie Sillah of a three count indictment of conspiracy, robbery with violence and burglary and larceny. A jury at the High Court in Freetown unanimously returned a non-guilty verdict in respect of all three counts.

ACC Commemorates International Anti-Corruption Day

Sierra Leone Parliament to punish absentee MPs

The Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Abass bundu, has promised to institute a regulation aimed at punishing Members of Parliament for absenteeism and lateness for proceedings.

The Speaker made assurance at the Well of Parliament on Tuesday, December 8th after the Acting Leader of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) in parliament, Ibrahim Ben Kargbo, asked him to put a structure in place that will address the promptness and the attendance of lawmakers.

EU rep praises Sierra Leone Covid19 response

The head of the European Union Delegation in Sierra Leone, Tom Vens, has praised the country’s management of the Covid-19 pandemic, saying it has helped to mitigate the threat it posed.

But Mr Vens warned that despite currently recording low number of cases of the disease, Sierra Leone must not let its guard down. He said with the wave of infections elsewhere in the world, no country should feel immune from the pandemic.
