APRM Validates targeted review report in Sierra Leone

The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) has ended a day regional validation of targeted report on health governance and COVID-19 for Kailahun and Kenema districts.

The validation exercise held at the Holy Trinity Parish Hall in Kenema attracted representatives from civil society representatives, local councils, Ministry of Social Welfare, and the security sectors.

First every Judge in Kailahun, eastern Sierra Leone

The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Easmon Ngakui on 8 January 2021 formally presented new judges and state counsels to stakeholders in Kenema district for both Kenema and Kailahun districts in eastern Sierra Leone.

Speaking at the ceremony at the law court in Kenema, Ngakui said that it was the first time in the history of the country for Kailahun to get a resident high court judge. He therefore admonished the stakeholders to cooperate with the new members of the bench in their region.

MPs give ultimatum to Sierra Leone Lands Minister

Members of Parliament have issued an ultimatum to the Minister of Lands and Housing, Dr. Denis Sandy to submit to the Clerk of Parliament a comprehensive resister of all state land by districts, revenue generated from the lists and other related documents against the date of the resumption of the House which is on 26 January 2021.

Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Abass Bundu had earlier made the announcement before the commencement of the final debate of the 2021 Appropriation Act.

Sierra Leone Judiciary appoints 12 notaries

Twelve people have been appointed to the position of Notary Public by the Sierra Leone Judiciary.

The appointees, according to Notary Act of 1937, are mandated by law among other things to certify acts of honour, authenticate instruments, and certify copies of instruments and the attestation of instruments outside the country.

Statistics Sierra Leone Popularizes DHS Report

Statistics Sierra Leone has in an effort to popularize findings of the 2019 Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) report engaged journalists in Freetown for better understanding of the key findings of the survey and its methodologies.

The report among others revealed a decline in the Maternal Mortality rate in Sierra Leone compared to the 2013 data.
