Sierra Leone maintains 10pm curfew

The National Coronavirus Response Centre has late Friday, revisited the latest measures instituted to curtail the violent spread of the second wave of COVID in the country with the 10pm curfew still enforced.

The restrictions were on the 25th January this year imposed due to the spike in the number of COVID cases in the month of January 2021 which has so far been the month that has recorded the highest number of cases since it recorded its first case in March 2020.    

Stats SL trains cartographic mapping officials

Statistic Sierra Leone has commenced the training of Cartographic Mapping officers simultaneously in all 16 districts of Sierra ahead of the Mid-Term Population and Housing Census. 

Speaking on the importance of cartographic mapping, the Deputy Statistician General, Andrew Bob Johnny said this was the first time an Electronic Census is happening in the country, but that at the end, it will help to generate credible population and housing data Mid-way between the census in 2015 and 2025.

Le100 billion for small business loan scheme in Sierra Leone

50,000 small and medium businesses nationwide are to benefit from a 100 billion Leone loan scheme over the next three years. This was disclosed by Shiaka Sannoh the Chief Executive Officer of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDA) during a collaborative seminar with the National Civic Education body, NaCCED on developing the appropriate messaging system for the scheme dubbed “Munafa Fund”.

Chieftaincy rivals clash in Potoru

A violent encounter occurred between rival factions in the up-coming chieftaincy race in Barrie chiefdom Pujehun District on Tuesday 2nd February. According reliable sources properties were destroyed and people suffered injuries after local tax verification and assessment process was disrupted.

Speaking to Politico, Mustapha Wai of the Wai clan said he was attacked by an irate group, and alleged that the group was organised by the Regent Chief of the area.
