Sierra Leone recorded 3,584 sexual violence cases in 2020

Data released by Rainbo Initiative has revealed a steady increase in the cases of sexual and gender-based violence in five districts of Sierra Leone despite efforts by government and development partners to curtail the menace.

3,339 (three thousand three hundred and thirty nine) of the cases are sexual assaults of which 97% were on adolescents and 209 (two hundred and nine) cases were of physical assaults. Adolescents account for 26 % of the number recorded in their five operational areas.

US$15 Million Loan for Water Supply in Sierra Leone

The Ministry of Finance has on Friday 5th February signed an agreement for a US$ 15 million Indian loan for the expansion and rehabilitation of existing potable water facilities in Mongo in the North, Njala-Mokonde and Mattru Jong in the South and Daru in the East.

Parliament has on the 4th of February 2020 presented an alleged fraudster, Vandy Von Kallon to newsmen at the main committee at Tower Hill.

Kallon who Research Manager at the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration used the names of the Leader of Government Business in the house of parliament, Sahr Matthew Nyuma and the Deputy Speaker of parliament, Sengepoh Thomas, to receive money from a presidential appointee , Dr Austin Demby.

Sub-contractors blame Pavi-Fort engineers

Sub- contractors working with Pavi-Fort roads Construction Company in Kenema have accused some of the company engineers of being responsible for the slow pace at which the township roads were being constructed which might delay the project beyond its original completion date.

These concerns were reported at a meeting with the administrative officer of Sierra Leone Roads Authority, Dauda Sheriff and Engineer Andrew Jusu.

Sierra leone President calls for a united Africa to reform the UN

President Julius Maada Bio has in a virtual address to the 34th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly called on other Africans heads of States and governments on the need to be united in order to effect the Continent’s position on the composition of the UN Security Council.   

During the conference over the weekend, Bio who chairs the Committee of ten Heads of State and Government (C10) called on the leadership of Africa to remain unified in respect of the current reformation process of the UN.
