Sierra Leone gives thousands more Covid19 relief package

Some nine thousand seven hundred and sixty-three households in four districts have so far benefitted from the cash donation by National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) aimed at cushioning the economic challenges brought about by the covid-19 pandemic.

Homes in Western Rural and Urban and the districts of Kono, Kenema and Kailahun each received the sum of 1, 309, 000 (one million three hundred and nine thousand Leones).

Judge to rule in NRM/APC Case

Justice Komba Kamanda has withdrawn the files for ruling in respect of the matter between members of the National Reformation Movement (NRM) of the opposition APC and the leadership of the mainstream party. The judge acted after a jurisdictional objection submitted by lawyers of the party because one of those who brought the original case to the High Court refused to fall in line with his other two colleagues who now want to discontinue their case against the APC.

Detective Police Constable 13974 Emmanuel Johannes and the 11th prosecution witness in the murder trial of Mariama Sajor Barrie and Ibrahim Bah for the alleged murder of 5-year old Khadija Saccoh has testified before Justice John Bosco Allieu and a 12 member jury.

Led in evidence on Tuesday, 23rd February 2021 by Lawyer Joseph A. K Sesay, the witness described himself as scene of crime officer attached at the Congo Cross Police Station but previously at the Lumley police station.

Savage Street Bridge reopens

The vital Savage Street Bridge which was being rebuilt after it collapsed last September, has reopened to the public again. The official reopening event took place on Tuesday 23 February 2021, attended by officials in the Ministry of Works and Public Assets and partners.

The Savage Street Bridge connects the Western part of Freetown and the central business district and its collapse affected the movement of vehicles and pedestrians and placed enormous pressure on the nearby railway line bridge.

SLAJ to assess COVID impact on journalists

A statement from the Anti-Corruption Commission, ACC has announced a recognition of its Commissioner, Francis Ben Kaifala by the United States Department of State as the International Anti- Corruption Champion of 2020.

The  announcement of the award by the US Department of State on Tuesday 23rd February 2021 at the US Embassy in Freetown was in recognition of his “outstanding commitment” to the prevention, exposure, and combating of corruption as the head of Sierra Leone’s Anti-Corruption Commission.
