Fire Disaster Sends Primary School to Two-shift System

A recent fire outbreak along Bai Bureh Road, in Rokupa East of Freetown, has forced the management of Cecilia Memorial Preparatory School to revert to a two-shift system in a bid to accommodate all the pupils in the classrooms not affected by the disaster.

The school authorities say this was the only way out considering the fact that class six pupils are preparing to take the National Primary School Examination in two months.

Statistics Sierra Leone ends cartographic mappers training

Statistics Sierra Leone has completed the training of 68 enumerators in the western area ahead of the 2021 Mid-Term housing and Population census.

Principal Statistician in the Western Area, Ibrahim Sannoh said the up-coming Mid-term Population and Housing Census (MTPHS) has nothing to do with politics and is only intended to produce data for national consumption.

No running water at Sierra Leone’s premier public hospital

It was a dire situation at Connaught Hospital all day Thursday 25 February after Freetown’s main public referral hospital went all day without a drop of water.

Such was how bad the situation was that the theatre did not carry out any surgery. In-patients stopped thinking about their health condition and became more concerned about the fact that the use of the lavatories was impossible.

One health worker told me “the place was unbearable”.

High court lets off Sierra Leone’s main opposition

A judge in Freetown has lifted an injunction on the main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) party holding their delegate’s conference which was halted at the last minute in January 2020.

In his ruling on Thursday 25th February 2021, Justice Komba Kamanda stated that because the affidavit of Alffred Minkailu Koroma, being the 1st Plaintiff and only deponent of it didn’t clearly state the party or parties that gave the authority, he couldn’t consider it as a joint affidavit.

Pathologist says death of 5-year-old Kadija Saccoh was “brutal, unnatural and homicidal”

Government’s Chief Pathologist Dr. Simeon Owizz Koroma, the 13th prosecution witness in the murder trial of Mariama Sajor Barrie and Ibrahim Bah for the alleged murder of 5-year old Khadija Saccoh has testified before Justice John Bosco Allieu and a twelve- member jury at the High Court in Freetown.

Led in evidence by Lawyer Joseph A. K Sesay on Thursday 25th February 2021, the witness described himself as a medical doctor attached to the Connaught Hospital as the Chief Government Pathologist.
