Special High court sits in one of Sierra Leone's newest districts

The High Court Criminal Session at Mongo Bendugu town commenced for the first time since the boundary delimitation exercise which made Falaba a separate district from Koinadugu.

The  session was presided by Justice Abdul Rahman Mansaray, the current resident Judge in Kabala.

Explaining the purpose of the session, the Spokesperson for the Chief Justice and Director of Communications for the Judiciary of Sierra Leone, Elkass Sannoh said the sessions are being held in places where there is no sitting judge.

Survey to end land dispute in Kenema begins

A District Security Committee in Kenema coordinated by the Office of National Security has on the 8th March 2021 mediated the simmering land dispute between two chiefdoms, Dama and Gaura in the Kenema district. The contested portion of land is between Kambema in Dama and Joru in Gaura.

NaCSA and local councils discuss Peace Consolidation programme

Senior officials of the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) have held discussions with representatives of four district Councils on the Pro-poor Growth for Peace Consolidation (GPC) Programme.

The councils represented at the discussions were Kambia, Koinadugu, Kono, Falaba and Kailahun.

The Commissioner of NaCSA - Dr. Sao-Kpato Max-Kyne told the gathering that the inclusion of Kambia district was to support the government’s agenda in strengthening the value chain for rice across the country.

Man docked for alleged armed robbery

The trial of one Mustapha Kabba who allegedly robbed and caused grievous bodily harm to octogenarian Kitty Fadlu-Deen has started with Justice Komba Kamanda presiding with a 12-member jury at the High Court in Freetown.

In his opening address to the jurors shortly after they were sworn in, prosecuting Lawyer Yada Williams said that the accused was before the court on a four count indictment, including robbery with aggravation, causing grievous bodily harm and attempting to strangle.

Kingho Mining operation kick starts in Sierra Leone

After several controversies over its legality, Kingho Mining Company Limited has on Saturday 6th March 2021 started mines in Tonkolili and the railway and port of its co-subsidiary in Pepel Town according to reports by its Communications person.

”The first set of locomotive departs from Pepel Town today at 6:00 am for the mining site in Tonkolili, where also full-scale iron ore mining has also started,” the report reads. 

Babadi Kamara pulls out of SLFA job

Babadi Kamara, the man appointed by the Sierra Leone Football Association as manager of the senior national football team, Leone Stars has declined the job less than 24 hours after accepting “to work for my country and support efforts to make the football-loving public happy again”.

In a letter addressed to the General Secretary of the SLFA, Kamara indicated that he was aware of the controversy surrounding his appointment after the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Association NSA released a statement saying they were not consulted.

Sierra Leone court remands "abusive” husband

Philip Moigua, who is alleged to have on several occasions physically and psychologically abused his spouse Jennifer A. Musa in Moyamba and subsequently in Bo has on Thursdays 4th March remanded in custody after appearing at a Bo magistrate court on a three-count charge been charged of assault, domestic violence and psychological torture.
