Sierra Leone commits to ECOWAS single currency.

President Julius Maada Bio has said that Sierra Leone is committed to attainment of the single currency for the ECOWAS Community of nations.

He made this statement on Monday 29th May 2021 on the first day of the second session of the ECOWAS Parliament Extra Ordinary Session held at the Freetown International Conference Centre.

Telecom service must be inclusive- NATCOM Chairman

The Chairman of the National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM) Joe Blell has described the Consumer Parliament as a platform for an interactive session involving telecommunications service providers and consumers which deserves much needed attention. Blell who was addressing the sixth Consumer Parliament held in Bo on Friday 26 March 2021 said telecommunications should reach all including people living in the rural areas of Sierra Leone.

MUNAFA Fund payments commence

People involved in small businesses have started receiving cash and cheques from the MUNAFA Fund that is managed by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDA). The issuing out of the funds started last Thursday 25 March 2021 and continued over the weekend in all the sixteen districts of the country. Two hundred people have so far received five and ten million leones each in the initial presentations that were done in the different towns and cities.

Community stakeholders discuss teenage pregnancy

Compromise at the community level remains a major fueling factor of teenage pregnancy in Sierra Leone, local authorities and politicians say.

The disclosure was made last week during the just concluded Community Stakeholders’ Dialogue Meeting on Commitments to Help Reduce Teenage Pregnancy and Early Marriage’ in Sierra Leone. The dialogue session was convened by FOCUS 1000, one of three implementing partners of the Health Systems and Services Strengthening Porgramme, known by its French acronym PROSSAN.

Susan’s Bay fire leaves hundreds homeless

The congested slum settlement of Susan’s Bay and parts of Marbella another slum in Freetown were on the night of Wednesday 24 March 2021 engulfed by fire that has left hundreds of residents homeless. What caused the fire is yet to be determined as well as the extent of the damage.  Fire fighters battled late into the night to put out the raging inferno.

“Water catchment areas at high risk” - says Water Minister

Sierra Leone to set up cyber incident reporting center

The Minister of Information and Communication Mohamed Rahman Swarray has disclosed that Sierra Leone is set to benefit from the first National Cyber Incident Reporting Center as part of the Cyber security package to the country.

Speaking at the weekly press conference organized by the Ministry  on Thursday 25th March 2021, he revealed that: “for the first time in the history of our country, Sierra Leone through my lobbying will benefit from the first National Cyber Incident Reporting Center.’’
