Sierra Leone participates in Dubai Quranic Competition

Sierra Leone’s Abu Bakarr Jalloh was among participants who participated in 2021 Dubai International Holy Quran Award Competition organized in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. 

The Dubai International Holy Quran Award is an annual award given for the memorization of the Quran, sponsored by the government of Dubai. It has over the years recognized hundreds of people from across the world that have excelled in the Quran memorization competition held every year. 

Sierra Leone OIC starts implementing of World Bank Project

The Sierra Leone Opportunities Industrialization Centre (OIC)   has commenced its implementation of the Skills Development Fund (SDF) training project. Youths are being given skills training at the SLOIC sites in Bo, Makeni and Mattru Jong through funds provided by the World Bank.

650 youths are presently benefiting from the training which is to last for nine months, with the last three months to include on the job training.

The center will offer courses on information technology, welding, agriculture, extension work and auto and electrical training.

Bio to award outstanding Sierra Leoneans

Eminent Sierra Leoneans in various spheres of life have been selected for this year’s national award to be held at State House.  To be conferred the highest honour as Grand Commander of the Order of the Republic of Sierra Leone is academic and politician Dr. Kadie Sesay.

A former lecturer at Fourah Bay College, Dr. Sesay later served as cabinet Minister in the SLPP government of late President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah. She was running mate alongside SLPP Presidential candidate Julius Maada Bio during the 2012 election that was won by the APC.

MOPED CAPACITATES LOCAL COUNCILS ON DATABASE WEB INFORMATION SYSTEM

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development has on 23 April 2021 conducted a day’s capacity training of staff of Local councils in the Eastern region. Chief administrators, development planning officers and monitoring and evaluation officers were introduced to developing   data base information systems at district level.

MP condemns Kono Killing

Member of Parliament for constituency 030 in Kono district eastern Sierra Leone, Emerson Lamina has condemned the recent political violence that erupted in the township of Koidu leading to the death of a 21-year-old man Osman Fengai, an alleged supporter of an ruling SLPP.

“I therefore unequivocally condemn this particular act of violence perpetrated against Osman Fengai that has caused his life, and all other forms of intended violence against any Kono person, group or groups and properties thereof,” the statement reads.
