The Management of the Parliament of Sierra Leone has on Tuesday 4th May, 2021, held a workshop to align their departmental plans with the objectives and activities of parliament’s strategic plan for 2021 to 2025.

ECOBANK Sierra Leone boss bags national award

The Gambian Managing Director of ECOBANK Sierra Leone, Lucretia Aina Moore was one of the recipients of the 2021 Independence Day awards by President Julius Maada Bio. 

She was awarded the Grand Officer of the Order of the Rokel (GOOR), one of the country’s highest honours.

The citation points out “her outstanding service in the field of banking”.

FIFA Boss arrives in Sierra Leone this week

Following announcement by SLFA, the football family in Sierra Leone will tomorrow receive the most powerful person in world football in the person of Gianni Infantino, the President of FIFA. The statement says Infantino will be accompanied by the recently elected President of CAF Dr. Patrice Motsepe during a one day visit to Sierra Leone on Wednesday 5 May 2021.

Big shake-up in Sierra Leone's cabinet

President Julius Maada Bio has made some significant changes in his cabinet and diplomatic staff. The reshuffle was announced on Friday 30 April, 2021, just three days after Sierra Leone celebrated her 60th independence anniversary. There has been a number of high profile switching of positions or total relieving of some individuals of their duties. Arguably the most eye catching decision by the President was that involving the Chief Minister’s office.

Falaba residents call for more JSS

Residents of Benadugu Tambaya section in Falaba district have called on the authorities to help their children access a Junior Secondary School (JSS) with the necessary atmosphere and learning materials describing the lack of such a facility as “a major challenge” in their section of the newly-created district.  

The community people say this situation has caused the number of school dropouts to increase along with teenage pregnancy and early marriage for the girls while some children end up on farms and in mining areas.

Sierra Leone postpones primary school leaving exams

The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary School Education (MBSSE) has in a press statement announced the postponement of the National Primary School Examination to Friday, May 28 this year.

The earlier announced date for the primary school leaving examination was for May 14th.  But the postponement according to the statement is due to the observation of the Ramadan Month by the Muslim population which is expected to end by mid of May 2021.
