2 sentenced to jail for robbery

Justice Alusine Sesay on the 18th May, 2021 sentenced Joseph Maco Bangura and Andrew Jabbati Panda to 3 and 2 years imprisonment respectively in two separate cases of larceny and robbery at the Freetown High court.

Bangura, 25, was accused of stealing one Tecno Spark 5 mobile phone valued at 1,500,000 Leones on the 20th December, 2020. The matter was brought to high court after a committal warrant in the Magistrate Court. He wasted no time in pleading guilty to the charge on the first day of his trial.

Bench warrant for 45 jurors

Justice Alusine Sesay has issued a bench warrant for 45 jurors at the start of the May 2021 criminal sessions of the High Court in Freetown. The judge issued the order after a roll call of 205 jurors was done which revealed a sizeable number of absentees.  He admonished the jurors to treat their work with seriousness as they have a moral obligation to the court and the country in general.

He acknowledged the need for training of jurors as they will be sitting in cases like murder, robbery and larceny.

Violent storm unroofs Selenga School

Pupils of the Selenga Junior Secondary School in Dambala, Bo district, southern Sierra Leone have stopped schooling after a heavy downpour of rain accompanied by heavy storm left the school building unroofed.

Reverend Father Rowland U. OKoru, Manager of schools in Selenga told Politico that on the night of the 16th May 2021, the community experienced rain fall with thunder and lightning. And in the morning, they noticed that it has caused devastation on some church structures and other buildings including the school.
