As criminal libel law repealed Sierra Leone Information Minister urges journalists to be more responsible

The Minister of Information and Communication, Mohamed Rahman Swaray has urged media practitioners to be more responsible in the discharge of their duty as the government continues to ensure a free and pluralistic press in Sierra Leone.

The minister made this statement while addressing journalists from across the country  at the Sierra Leone Association of Journalist’s (SLAJ)Annual General Meeting(AGM) held in Bo, southern Sierra Leone.

NCRA urged to improve on services

The National Elections Watch (NEW) has urged the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) to improve on its services, following NEW’s observation of the authority’s registration and confirmation exercise in the Western Area and northern region.

A statement by NEW which was released on the 3 June 2021 noted that even though NCRA has made some improvements in specific areas like Koinadugu, Falaba and Tonkolili districts, there were so many challenges in the Bombali district, and that more needs to be done. 

Jaiama Chiefdom election nullified

The Court of Appeal in Freetown has on the 3rd June 2021 nullified the Jaiama Chiefdom, Bo district chieftaincy election in the wake of a petition filed at the High Court citing that the election had traits of malfeasance.

Augustine Maada Kemoh Luseni Vandi-Yah and Karteh Foday Bassie were the two front-runners when the election was conducted on 19th October 2019. Karteh Foday Bassie was declared the winner after the National Electoral Commission (NEC) announced the result.

Conservation Society commemorates Environment day

 Conservation Society of Sierra Leone has on the 5th June 2021 joined the Ministry of Environment and environmental protection Agency to commemorate World Environment Day with the theme ‘’Ecosystem Restoration, resetting our relationship with nature’’. The event took place at Chinese farm Abu road in Kenema.

TSC vets teachers for national award

The Teaching Service Commission (TSC ) has on the  4th June 2021 ended a two-day screening exercise of teachers from the three districts of the Eastern region that were nominated for this year’s national award competition in Kenema.

The exercise started earlier this year with nine teachers who showed up for the award among which three best were needed to represent the three categories of Pre-Primary and Primary, Senior School and Senior Secondary School.

MBSSE trains inspectors of schools
