Still no surgery for woman with scissors in abdomen in northern Sierra Leone

Zainab Kamara, 28, still lives with a pair of scissors in her abdomen which was allegedly left there during a caesarean operation she underwent seven years ago. She has since been having difficulty moving her right leg and has endured persistent bleeding which has brought her discomfort and stigmatization among her peers. She only knew she had the instrument in her abdomen at the Kambia Government hospital after a pelvic x-ray was conducted. 

Man, 55, caught stealing inside a Freetown hospital

A 55-year-old man, Alfred Bull was caught stealing a lady’s bag at West End Clinic on Edward Street via Sanders Street in Freetown on the 22nd June 2021.

Bull in the afternoon hours of yesterday used the auxiliary gate leading to the staircase to gain access to the upper floors of the building.  He then made an attempt to grab a black leather bag belonging to Nurse Konima Kamara.

ECOWAS leaders address security and democracy

Leaders of the regional bloc ECOWAS at their 59th ordinary session in the Ghanaian capital Accra, have addressed issues related to peace, security and democracy in West Africa, all of which they believe are “prerequisites for the economic integration and development of the region”. In a communiqué released on 19 June 2021 at the end of the meeting by the Authority of Heads of State and Government, concerns were expressed over the political crisis in Mali and the attendant security challenges in the country.

Sierra Leone Parliament scrutinises cybercrime bill

Members of Parliament have on the 21st June 2021 scrutinised and debated the proposed cybercrime bill in the House of Parliament at Tower Hill, Freetown.

This is the third sitting Parliament has convened with regards the cybercrime bill. The proposed bill is part of the effort of the government to sanitise the country’s cyberspace.

The majority of Parliamentarians were concerned with some of the terms or phrases in specific sections and parts of the proposed bill.

University of Sierra Leone upgrades system
