5 years in prison for juvenile

Justice Michael Mamie has on the 2nd July 2021 imprisoned one Alhassan Sesay to 5 years imprisonment at the Approved School for sexually penetrating a class 4 pupil, his ‘lover’.

Sesay is said to have in sometime in July 2020 had sexual intercourse with the underage girl at his residence in Eastern Freetown and was therefore charged with Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act No. 12 of 2012 as amended in 2019.

Sierra Leone is set to receive more vaccines in the coming weeks in a bid to meet the growing need for vaccination of the country’s population. This as the AstraZeneca vaccine stocks out.

According to the Public Health Emergency Communications lead, Harold Thomas they are purchased with funds that have already been remitted by the government of Sierra Leone from the World Bank Project to procure more vaccines in addition to those donated under the COVAX initiative and by China.

Sierra Leone readies Iron Ore for export

Marampa Mines Limited Company, a subsidiary of the  Gerald Group, has announced the arrival of a ship to herald the commencement of shipment of iron ore out of the country, the first, since the company and the government of Sierra Leone reached an out of court settlement in a dispute between the two parties, some two months ago.  A statement released by the company indicated the arrival of its “first Ocean Going Vessel” and the start of loading of 65% iron ore concentrate at the Freetown Port.

CCSL reacts to Sierra Leone ban on congregational worship

The Council of Churches in Sierra Leone (CCSL) on the 2nd July 2021 issued out a press release to all heads of churches and their leaders regarding the announcement made by President Julius Maada Bio on the 1st July 2021, in which the President outlined some stringent measures to curb the third wave of the coronavirus, including a one month ban on congregational worship in mosques and churches.

No more bed for COVID-19 patients in Bo

The Bo District COVID-19 Emergency Response Centre has in a media alert expressed concern at the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases and fatalities recorded in the district leading to a lack of bed capacity at the COVID centers.

 “We have also learned with dismay that most of the corpses with severe respiratory illnesses are not swabbed before burial. The bed holding capacities in most health centres in Bo are also now exhausted,” the statement reads.
