Man sentenced to hang in Sierra Leone

 24-year-old Musa Kargbo, popularly known as SOJA, has on 7th July 2021 been sentenced to death by hanging for murder. The verdict was issued by the Resident High Court Judge in Makeni, Justice Unisa Kamara who is presiding over cases in the ongoing High Court Criminal Session in Magburuka Town, Northern Sierra Leone.  

A twelve-member jury unanimously returned a guilty verdict against the convict in respect of a one-count indictment of murder contrary to law.  

Operation to targets dynamite blasters in Sierra Leone

A number of arrests have been made in what the Police say is a clampdown on fishermen who are in the habit of blasting dynamite explosives at the Aberdeen Creek, west of Freetown.  Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police Amadu Mannah in briefing journalists at the Police headquarters in Freetown said they have arrested individuals in a raid dubbed “Operation Seagulls” because of their persistent detonating of the explosives right underneath the Aberdeen bridge.

Sierra Leone convicts 284 for sexual offence in one year

Sierra Leone’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice says he is proud of his stewardship, one year since his appointment by President Julius Maada Bio.

Longstanding lawyer, Anthony Brewah told Politico that he and his team had in the last 12 months been able to file 1,652 indictments, among them 659 bordering on sexual offences.

Of those sexual offence indictments there have been 284 convictions.

“I feel comfortable in the last one year because I have enjoyed the cooperation of all in the office and judiciary” Brewah said.

Sierra Leone: “Arrest of MP is not political” - AIG Amadu Mannah

Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Amadu Mannah has said that the arrest and detention of Member of Parliament Emmanuel Saidu Conteh over alleged unlawful possession of firearms among others has got nothing to do with politics.

The officer made the statement during a press conference in Freetown on Tuesday 6 July 2021 summoned by the Police leadership to address a number of issues being addressed by the Force.

No lawyer for man accused of robbery

An accused Mohamed Kamara has on Monday 5 July 2021 appeared before Justice Musu Kamara at the Freetown High Court No.1 on a robbery with aggravation charge. The man who had no legal representation was alleged to have wielded a stick during stealing of a motorbike valued at Le 9,700,000 belonging to one Mohamed Kamara.

He was charged with conspiracy to commit a felony with other unknown persons, and robbery with aggravation, contrary to section 23 subsection 1 paragraph A of the Larceny Act of 1916, as amended.

Mohamed Bangura testifies for Kamarainba

Defence witness No. 3, Mohamed Bangura, has on the 6th July 2021 testified at the Sexual Model Court in Freetown involving Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray in an alleged sexual penetration of a secondary school pupil in Kono, eastern Sierra Leone.
