Sierra Leone Gov’t to probe death of Korean businessman in Freetown

The Government of Sierra Leone is investigating an alleged injustice of a Korean businessman in Sierra Leone, leading to his alleged suicide, according to an alleged suicide note that went viral on social media after his death.
Kim Sung Nyeon in his letter dated 2nd July 2021 alleged that his business has gone through several victimizations in the hands of some ‘self-interest-seeking officials’ at the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR) in Sierra Leone.

Parliament summons NCRA boss

The Acting Speaker of Parliament, Sengepoh Solomon Thomas, of constituency 089, Bonthe district, has on Wednesday 7th July, 2021, instructed the Clerk of Parliament to summon Mohamed Maasaquoi, the Director General (DG) of the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA).

Sierra Leone parliament approves three new universities

The Parliament of Sierra Leone has on Thursday 8 July 2021 approved three new universities after the House completed debates on the establishing of the higher learning institutions.
The three universities that were approved constitute the Milton Margai Technical University, which was known as the Milton Margai College of Education and Technology, the Eastern Technical University which was then the Eastern Polytechnic, and the newly established Kono University of Science and Technology.

Law firm appeals Commission of Inquiry

Basma and Macauley, a law firm in Freetown has on the 7th July 2021 appealed the findings of the Commissions of Inquiry (COI) at the Appeal’s Court in Freetown.
The sole Commissioner Justice Biobele Georgewill’s Commissions of Inquiry had put in its findings that the said firm was a party in a money-laundering scheme involving the Ministry of Justice in the then administration of former President Ernest Bai Koroma.
