HRMO to review code

In an effort to effectively operate the day to day activities of the state, the Human Resource Management Office has expressed determination to review its Civil Service Code, regulations and rules.

The Director General of the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) Ansu Samuel Tucker said the government is determined to create a civil service that would meet the needs and welfare of its workers with the aim of making the civil service efficient and effective in its service delivery.

2 DICOVERC staff in ACC net

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)  on Tuesday 27th July 2021 in its press release announced the indictment of two Western Area Urban District COVID Emergency Recovery Centre (DICORVERC) staff for allegedly selling COVID-19 vaccination card to non-vaccine takers.

New 83 megawatts for Sierra Leone

In what Sierra Leone’s Minister of Energy, Kanja Sesay has referred to as “a game changer”, the United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) has committed to provide $217 million in debt financing for a new 83 megawatt power plant in Freetown.

A statement on the DFC website says that with sponsorship from Milele Energy and TCQ Power Limited, the Western Area Power Generation Project (WAPGP), will generate and sell electricity to EDSA as per a 20-year power purchase agreement.

ACC probes Serabu Hospital

The Anti-Corruption Commission has opened an investigation into corruption allegations levied against the management of Serabu Community Hospital in Bo district by the hospital’s donor partners -, ‘German Doctors’ (GD).

The Charity, in a letter addressed to the Bishop of the diocese of Bo which owns and manages the facility said they would cease cooperation with the community hospital effective 1st August 2021 if they were not assured that corruption and other management problems would be addressed.

Pademba Road Prison to relocate to Songo

Chief Minister, Jacob Jusu Saffa has urged stakeholders at the Correctional Centre in Freetown to expedite the relocation process of the Pademba Road facility to Songo just outside Freetown.

The maximum security prison was established on the 14th March 1914, by British colonial government to hold 324 inmates. The facility now accommodates over 2,000 inmates, which rights groups have repeatedly denounced.

Accused freed in sexual penetration case

26- year-old Mohamed Mansaray was on Monday 26th July 2021 freed of Sexual offence by Justice Momoh-Jah Stevens at the Sexual Model Court in Freetown.

Mansaray was indicted on a count of sexual penetration. The prosecution alleged that Mansaray had a sexual intercourse with a child on the 17th March, 2020 in Freetown.

The State led 3 witnesses including the alleged victim in the matter and her mother.
