Breast feeding lowers blood pressure - says expert

The Directorate of food and Nutrition at  Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Health and Sanitation(MOHS) has together with other partners launched the 2021 world breastfeeding week, that began on the 1st to  7th August, with the theme, “shared responsibility” while emphasising its health benefits to both mother and child.

The health officials therefore called on the male partners to support the mothers financially, psychologically and emotionally to enable them breastfeed effectively.

ECOWAS Commissioner appreciates Sierra Leone

Special ECOWAS Representative, Fatmata Jam has expressed her appreciation for Sierra Leone and other partners for their involvement in the implementation of International Humanitarian Law (IHL), Trafficking in Persons (TIP), Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Child Rights in the era of COVID-19 pandemic.

The Envoy made the statement at the Atlantic hotel in Freetown on Monday 2nd August 2021 during an engagement, as part of a five day mission to Sierra Leone that will end on Friday 6th August 2021.

Report accuses Sierra Leone Police of heavy-handedness in Makeni protests

Police response to last year’s violent protests in Makeni, Tombo and Tonko Limba was violent, leading to the loss of life. This is according to a new report by the Bombali Human Rights Committee.

In a report titled “Study on Police Response to Protests”, the group recommends a review of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) training structure, incorporating human rights at all levels of their training.

Sierra Leone extends Covid19 vaccination to 18+
