SALWACO dams under threat

The Regional Manager East, Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) Eng. Lansana Sawei has called for action by the government and residents of Kenema municipality for the protection of the gravity in the water catchment areas in the Kambui forest in Kenema against human activities that continue to pose threat to the facilities.

Engineer Sawei told Politico that the water gravity system that has been providing water to residents in Kenema has a treatment plant that uses a machine to transfer water to the reservoir.

Finance Minister assures partners of gov’t commitment to PFM Reforms

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Finance Dennis K. Vandi has assured the New European Union Ambassador and British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone of the commitment of the Government of Sierra Leone to Public Financial Management reforms to enhance transparency and accountability in the public sector. And to also continue to allocate more resources to pro-poor projects, human capital development, and the fight against COVID-19.

Sierra Leone's main opposition party adopts reforms

Officials of All Peoples Congress (APC) Party will today 17th September 2021 meet in the northern headquarter town of Makeni to adopt their party’s repealed constitution that will take them to the 2023 elections. The conference will end on 19th September 2021.

This is after Justice Adrian Fisher of the High Court in Freetown on Monday 9th September 2021 ordered the party to conduct an emergency convention no later than 31st August this year.

Sierra Leone's AYV on DSTv

For the first time since the founding of the South Africa-based DSTv (Digital Satellite Television) in 1995, a Sierra Leone television station is now among the channels.

The private-owned AYV (Africa Young Voices) TV station can now be watched on Channel 399.

According to a statement from the AYV, they have gone into an agreement with MULTICHOICE, the owners of DSTv, so as to “showcase Sierra Leone, its stories and its talents to Africa”.

Director of Surveys & Land in court

The Director of Surveys and Lands at the Ministry of Lands and Country Planning, Tamba Dauda will appear before Freetown High Court Judge Mohamed Bawoh on Friday 17 September 2021.

The Director had been accused of initially dodging the court’s summon request and charged for contempt of court. Dauda was ordered by the high court to countersign survey plans but refused to do so. He is a defendant in a matter filed by Munya Ventures Limited and ORS as complainants.

Sierra Leone president receives Food Systems Dialogue Report

President Julius Maada has on Tuesday 15th September 2021 received the synthesis report of the national food systems from a delegation led by the Minister of State in the office of the Vice President, Francess Piagie Algalie, noting that they have worked collaboratively with different partners to ensure the recommendations are solid enough to help in the food production and sustainability.

Police shot man over brother’s phone – court told

Saidu Kargbo, the brother of the slain Alpha Kargbo alias Wandada has explained to a Magistrate court in Freetown how his elder brother met his death at Hastings after he demanded that Saidu’s phone seized by the Police be returned.

Alimamy Foday Yillah from the Operational Support Division (OSD) of the Police made his fourth appearance in court accused of pulling the trigger that led to Kargbo’s death.
