Sierra Leone partners with China on basic education

Sierra Leone and China have forged new closer educational ties in the basic education sector following a virtual meeting between Basic and Senior Secondary Education Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh and China’s Vice Minister of Education, Zheng Fuzhi on Friday 15 October this year.

The purpose of the virtual meeting was to share ideas on basic education including integration of technology, distance education techniques, experience sharing and other education related topics.

Sierra Leone not on track for 2030  water  accessibility target

The Minister of Water Resources Philip Karimu Lansana has on Thursday 14th October 2021 during the weekly press briefing at the Ministry of Information and Communication admitted that Sierra Leone is not on track to meet the 2030 global target of universal access to water which was set by the UNDP.  

Sierra Leone jails breastfeeding mum for two years

Justice John Bosco Allieu has sentenced Kadiatu Tarawally, a 24-year-old suckling mother to two years imprisonment after she pleaded guilty to the offence of larceny.

Tarawally was arraigned in court to answer to the charge at the High Court in Freetown on the 14th October this year.

The prosecution believed that the woman stole from the shop of one Alberta Lappia on Cole Drive, Off Regent Road, Lumley in Freetown.

ACC convicts former NMA staff

Justice Cosmotina Jarrett of the Freetown High Court  on Friday 15 October 2021  convicted and sentenced Daniel Kapri Sesay, a former Mines Compliance Officer of the National Minerals Agency (NMA) over various corruption charges as levied by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Father "impregnates" 17-year-old daughter

A 17-year-old SSS III pupil has testified before Justice Momoh-Jah Stevens of how her father had sex with her multiple times last year in Kambia district, North-Western Sierra Leone and got her pregnant.

The girl was led in evidence by State Prosecutor, Jesse Tucker as she testified against her father Mohamed Conteh on Wednesday 13 October this year at the Sexual Offences Model Court in Freetown.

ECOWAS Speaker urges respect for Constitutional terms

The Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Dr. Sidie Mohamed Tunis has told a high level parliamentary seminar in Winneba, Ghana that greater attention be given to the issue of constitutional terms by governments in the sub region.

He said while they condemn the military coup in Guinea, serious efforts must be directed at addressing “the new phenomenon of amending the constitution of a state before an election or before the expiration of the tenure of an incumbent President”.

Autopsy awaits victim of alleged room fight with girl suspect

Crime Officer Alieu Saffias at the Kissy Mess Mess Police station has told Politico that the Police have requested for an autopsy on a man whose identity is yet to be determined but  according to a video that went viral on social media was alleged to have attempted to rape a teenage girl when he met his death.
