18-year-old in court for sexual penetration

18-year-old George Walker was arraigned at the Sexual Offences Model Court in Freetown on 30th November this year on a one-count indictment of sexual penetration of a child.

The State Prosecutor, Oladipo Robin-Mason Jr. led Detective Sergeant 8385, Rebecca Conteh, as a prosecution witness.

APC to pay conditional fine

Justice Adrian Fisher has ordered the main opposition party, All People’s Congress (APC) to pay a conditional fine of 50 million Leones if they fail to address the issue of ‘unresolved membership’ within the party in a fortnight.

The Judge handed down his ruling on the 1st of December this year after the plaintiff in the matter, Alfred Peter Conteh through his lawyer, filed an application for contempt against the second defendant, Alhaji Osman Foday Yansaneh and the third defendant, the APC Party.

Human Rights Commission receives more complaints

Chairperson for the Human Rights Commission Sierra Leone (HRCSL) Patricia Narsu Ndanema has said that the complaints received by the commission increased in 2020 from 326 in 2019 to 363. She said this on Wednesday 1st December 2021, during the presentation of the 14th edition of the state of human rights report 2020.

MP calls for tourism investment in Kono

The leader of the Coalition for Change (C4C) in parliament, Emerson Saa Lamina, has called on the government to invest and develop various tourism centres in Kono District to boost the country’s economy.

The MP, while debating the government’s 2022 annual budget at the house of parliament on Friday 26th November 2021 applauded the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs’ intervention in identifying certain localities in the country.

Optimism surrounds Sierra Leone's mining sector- Mines Minister

Mines and Mineral Resources Minister Timothy Kabba has given an optimistic picture of Sierra Leone’s mining sector whilst presenting his scorecard to journalists and civil society activists at a retreat in Bo last weekend.  The minister presented a picture of huge potentials for mineral deposits in the country as captured in the Airborne Geophysical   Survey that was financed by the government.  He said the geo-data assembled provides a promising future for the country’s mines.
