Cyber security training for journalists ends

Chozen Generation Sierra Leone has ended a two-day training for journalists, bloggers, and youth activists on cyber security and digital rights issues.

The training focused on Freedom of Expression, Access to Information, Internet Freedom, Digital Rights, and Cyber-security, understanding the Cyber-Security and Crime Act 2021, and the effective use and Introduction to Digital Rights Advocacy among others.

IGR analyses 2022 Gov’t budget

The Institute for Governance Reform (IGR) has analysed the 2022 budget which was presented to Parliament by Finance Minister Dennis Sandi. In a released statement, IGR said for “government to meet all or the greater part of government’s priorities in the Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP), revenue mobilization (improving domestic revenue collection), addressing vulnerabilities and building resilience along with stringent public financial management practices will have to be a top priority”.

Prof Kwoba condemns Privatization Programme

Poverty Reduction Campaigner for Africa, Professor Frederick W. Kwoba has in a position paper condemned the way Traditional Privatization Programme (TPP) is done. Titled “War on Poverty” and released at the Freetown City Hall during the Economic Association of Sierra Leone’s 1st annual conference, Kwoba stated that privatizing the people’s income generating assets is not good for the country.  

Council Chairman drops case against SLPP PRO

The Chairman of the Pujehun District Council Sheik Suhibu Sowa has confirmed the withdrawal of a case he filed against ruling Sierra Leone’s Peoples Party’s Pujehun District Public Relations Officer, Alpha Kamara, following a report Politico published last week.

According to court papers seen by Politico, councilor Kamara was to have appeared before a Magistrate yesterday, 7th December 2021 to answer a six count charge in a case brought against him by Sheikh Sowa.

Police implicates student in sexual penetration

Detective Sergeant 18307 Kargbo Abdul Aziz of the Sierra Leone Police has told Justice Manuela Harding that their investigations implicated a student Ibrahim Kargbo alias Junior in the sexual penetration of an 11-year-old child.

The detective was testifying as the fourth prosecution witness at the Sexual Offences Model Court in Freetown on Tuesday 7th December 2021.

Sierra Leone finally bags TRANSCO CLSG deal

 Sierra Leone and Côte d’Ivoire have finally signed the TRANSCO CLSG project in Abidjan on Wednesday 1st December 2021. The project which seeks to import electricity from Côte d’Ivoire to Sierra Leone is set to benefit the Southeastern cities of Bo and Kenema.

President Bio recognizes challenges of disabled

President Julius Maada Bio, in a commemoration of the World Disability Day, has acknowledged that women and children living with disability are the hardest hit and farthest left behind especially during this period of COVID-19.  Speaking at State House, on Friday 3 December, in observance of the day, President Bio said the theme, “leadership and participation of persons with disability towards an inclusive accessible and sustainable post COVID-19 world”, resonates with his government’s strategic national development plan.
