Sierra Leone opposition presidential candidate pleads "not guilty’

Former All People’s Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate, Dr. Samura Kamara on Tuesday 14th of December 2021 pleaded not guilty to the corruption allegations levied against him by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) at High Court No. 1 presided over by Justice Adrian Fisher.

The former presidential candidate’s appearance saw heightened armed police presence around the court’s precincts, with some dressed in anti-riot gears.

Sierra Leone journalists blacklist musician LAJ

The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) and Women in the Media Sierra Leone (WIMSAL) have in separate press releases requested that all media houses in the country blacklist or desist from airing any of the songs done by Alhaji Amadu Bah, popularly known as LAJ for having insulted Radio Democracy’s station manager Asmaa James.

Sierra Leone redenomination bill becomes law

The redenomination of the Leones bill, which authorizes the deduction of three zeros from the Sierra Leone currency, was yesterday 14th December passed into law after 21 working days without objection as stated by Parliamnet.

The Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Abass Bundu, made the disclosure after a member of parliament from the main opposition, All People’s Congress (APC), Abdul Kargbo representing Constituency 077, Kambia   commented on the said bill.

MoHs Commemorates International Universal Health Coverage Day

The Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS) together with its implementing partners commemorated the International Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Day on the 14th December, 2021.

This year’s commemoration which was held at the Miatta Conference Centre in Freetown aims to raise awareness about having strong and resilient world-class health systems across the globe with multi-stakeholder partners.

The theme for this year’s commemoration is “Leave No One’s Health Behind: Invest in Health Systems for all”.

Pupil gets 10 years for sexual penetration

Justice Momoh-Jah Stevens has sentenced Peter Samura, a secondary school pupil to 10-years imprisonment for sexual penetration.

Samura made his final appearance at the Sexual Offences Model Court in Freetown on Monday 13th December this year.

The State Prosecutor, Musa Pious Sesay Jr. led in a total of three witnesses including the victim, her mother and the police investigator.

MP fears for Black Johnson landowners

Member of Parliament, Khadijatu Davies, of constituency 110, Western Area Rural District, has raised alarm of the possible deprivation of landowners of the Black Johnson for the construction of the Modern Fish Harbour.

Ms. Davies made this observation at the house of parliament when the Minister of Land, Housing and Country Planning, Dr. Turad Senesie, brought the survey report to the house of parliament for approval before the compensation of the landowners can be commenced.
